UHAB's newest service to New York's HDFC community.

UHAB Mutual will offer low-cost property and liability insurance to our members. UHAB Mutual will capitalize on the success of the Fire and Liability Insurance Plan (FLIP), which has been providing affordable and high quality insurance for over 20 years. Current FLIP members will have the option to switch to UHAB Mutual. This is a unique opportunity to be involved in a mutual company that is owned and operated for the benefit of the members who are also policyholders.

Policyholders will help shape the Company by electing board members and being able to serve on the board themselves. The revenues generated by UHAB Mutual will be directly reinvested in the co-op community in the form of discounts on insurance premiums. This allows the policyholders to have a share of the profits that currently go to outside carriers. UHAB Mutual will continue the Urban Homesteading Assistance Board’s goal of providing training, technical assistance and services to limited-equity, low-income co-operatives in New York.
