Seminars Planned on Buying an Available Affordable Co-op Apartment in Crown Heights

CROWN HEIGHTS — The Neighborhood Housing Services of East Flatbush (NHS-EF) and the Urban Homestead Assistance Board (UHAB), both not-for-profit organizations, are sponsoring a series of free informational seminars regarding the 320 Sterling St. Co-op development in Crown Heights.

The seminars will take place on Tuesdays, Aug. 3 and 24, and Sept. 14 at the Crown Heights Library. The government subsidized 106-unit co-op has 50 one-bedroom apartments that will be made available to the wider public for purchase, according to Tyrone McDonald, marketing coordinator at the NHS-EF. Preference will be given to current residents of Community Board 9.

In addition, a subsidy from the state’s Affordable Housing Corporation (AHC) will be made available, enabling homebuyers earning $50,000 or less the chance to purchase a one-bedroom unit for $90,000. The project is currently under open market, a lottery was conducted in February. Applications will continue to be accepted once all of the units are filled.

The building, formerly a rental apartment, is currently under renovations and is scheduled to be completed in August.

The project is sponsored by the UHAB Sterling Street Housing Development Fund Corp. and the NYC Partnership Housing Development Fund Co. Inc. NHS-EF acts as the marketer on the project. The free seminars will include discussions on the application process, layouts, eligibility and other homebuyer related topics.

The Crown Heights Library is at 560 New York Ave., between Maple Street and Lincoln Road. To RSVP, please call Rodney Grierson at (718) 469-4679.
