Assistant Director - Member Services

UHAB is seeking an Assistant Director in the Member Services department who is fluent in both Spanish and English.

The Organization

UHAB has a rich history in affordable housing and community renewal since 1973 by organizing, developing, and supporting low-income resident-controlled housing cooperatives and tenant associations.  UHAB has assisted residents of more than 1,600 buildings, creating cooperative homeownership opportunities for about 30,000 households—securing housing and building communities. UHAB’s activities include advocacy, tenant organizing, new co-op development and development consulting, sponsorship of new co-ops, classroom and on-site training, assistance tailored to specific buildings, and services to member cooperatives that include bookkeeping, insurance, seminars, and newsletters.

UHAB’s work is carried out at our offices in Lower Manhattan and Harlem by 40 dedicated professional staff members. The Assistant Director, based in the main office in Lower Manhattan, will report to UHAB’s Director of Member Services.

Member Services:  UHAB Member Services aims to help residents of affordable co-ops keep their operating costs low through economies of scale, and to provide the tools and support these co-ops need to remain or to become financially and physically healthy.  More than half of New York City’s 1,300 low-to-moderate-income co-ops have joined UHAB as members.  As a result, they have access to a variety of high-quality cost-saving services, from group fire and liability insurance and our fuel buying program to cooperative accounting options, including online bookkeeping (Connected Book$).  .
