Fire Safety Resources

This past January, a deadly fire at an apartment building in the Bronx killed seventeen New Yorkers, including eight children, and had widespread ripple effects across our city. The cause of the fire involved a defective space heater and malfunctioning self-closing doors. At UHAB, our hearts go out to all those impacted by this devastating tragedy. New Yorkers should be able to rely on safe conditions in their homes and landlords need to be held accountable for providing safe conditions in buildings.

As an HDFC co-op resident or board member, you can keep yourself and your neighbors safe by learning about fire safety and enacting a fire safety plan in your building. FDNY just released new fire rules on April 15, 2022. Now is a great time to read up on these rules. Make sure you have a Fire Safety Plan posted in the lobby of your building, and that everyone in your co-op knows what should happen in case of an emergency. Working together, HDFC co-op residents can keep each other safe!

Below are some new resources from FDNY and HCR to help your building prevent fires and prepare for emergencies.
