More About the Incubator:

UHAB’s National Incubator for Permanently Affordable Co-op Housing includes three phases:

(1) An introduction to the concepts, terminology and practices need to develop not only a permanently affordable housing co-op but even more importantly how to develop the infrastructure need to support the creation of co-ops and help them to thrive over the coming decades.

This will be completed over 7 two-hour sessions on Tuesdays at 1 pm EST.

(2) A 4-week (Feb) or 9-week (May) practicum where you will work independently or in small teams to explore the existing infrastructure in your region or local community and how it might be enhanced to support co-op development and look at how a specific co-op might be developed in your community. During this phase, you will have weekly assignments and opportunities to interact online with UHAB National staff and fellow participants on Zoom and within the class portal.

(3) We will culminate with a three day in-person retreat at UHAB’s New York City office, where you will have the opportunity to work with UHAB’s subject matter experts to learn more detail based on your independent exploration and deepen your understanding of the steps you need to implement the development and support of permanently affordable co-op housing in your community. We will also tour several co-ops and learn from their members’ experiences.

The February 2025 cohort will gather in NYC from May 5th to May 7th.
The May 2025 cohort will gather in NYC from September 8th to 10th.
