UHAB is the City’s largest developer of affordable housing cooperatives. Since 2002, over 96 buildings (1720 units) have passed through our pipeline of moderate to gut renovation projects. Focusing on the conversion of occupied distressed rental properties into limited-equity cooperatives, we do as much people development as real estate development. With tenant participation, agency recognition and support, and the hard work of our real estate partners in the for-profit and not-for-profit world, our co-ops can boast a 99% success rate.
Throughout the pre-development and renovation process we educate residents on all aspects of owning and operating their future cooperative, ensuring that residents are engaged in their own housing solutions.
Does your building want to go co-op?
Working from UHAB’s decades of experience helping tenants gain ownership of their buildings, UHAB works with tenant associations who are interested in the cooperative model. If you are a tenant in a building that is interested in working towards cooperative ownership, reach out to Arielle Hersh at (212) 479-3321 or hersh[at]uhab.org.
